Preview of some selected art works that I have produced over the last few years using digital animation, programming, interaction design and work for print.
View the Day is an ongoing project to record the sky over a period of one year. Using a camera controlled by a computer server I take a picture of the sky every quarter hour and save it. I then use image analysis techniques to average the colour of the image to one colour. I am experimenting displaying the images in various ways and if you click here you can view the web preview with some supporting text.
This is a preview of two of the ECN sites showing a picture taken each week. There is info about the sites in the flash file. To view click here.
Every year we try and do a timelapse of the degree show build, with varying success. It is really great to see the show being put up and the anticipation before the show opens. This extract shows the build up in the hours before the 07 industry private view and the scrum of people when the night gets going. To view the timelapse click here.
Preview of animation visualising population growth from 1500 to 2040 with data taken from the book 'Something new under the Sun' by John McNeill (isbn: 0-140-29509-7). The animation was created using Maya click here to view.
Preview animation showing the images from View the Day. In actual spaces I am showing the images on a projector and the viewer can control the movement of the images either back or forward depending on their position in front of the screen. This is controlled by using sonic sensors to evaluate the users position. This animation just plays back the images, but looks kind of nice, click here to view.
Preview animation showing some snippets of an animation series I did a few years ago. I wanted to make some work that commented about our actions and consumption especially in the G8 economies and how in a way it was all pretty fragile, what would happen if the water ran out or there were day time power cuts. To take a look at the animation click here.
This is an animation made in flash using some quite complicated random motion and collision detection. I initially made it for a pyschology professor who was doing a visualisation experiment showing white blood cells eating viruses etc. The idea is it 'supposed' to improve the immune systems of the viewer. So I thought well lets try it out on people to improve their immunity against wanting to emmit tons of carbon. So if your immunity is running low then take a look. To view the animation click here.
Web cam experiment to test mobile phone as timelapse camera. Uses Python pys60 on the phone and Java to do image analysis and php + flash to display images online. To view click here.
